This past Sunday, November 9, we celebrated the Benfinita della vendemmia, a traditional ceremony to mark the end of the harvest.
As we have done in past years, we organized a lunch with all the Il Poggione workers and employees, their families and friends in the cellar. This year we had about 150 people!
We all met at 12:30, toasted with Il Poggione Rosé and started the long lunch, cooked by some of our workers and paired with Il Poggione wines.
We started with some Tuscan appetizers, including a bruschetta made with the newly pressed olive oil. The main course was pappa al pomodoro, chickpea soup and polenta with wildboar.
The next course was a roasted pork “porchetta style” made in our barbecue.
The highlight of the day was when our proprietor Leopoldo Franceschi gave a gold medal to our employees who have worked with us for 20 years, to thank them for their continuous support and dedication. This year’s recipients were Luciano Binarelli, the accountant in our office, Graziano Albani, one of our workers who takes care of our livestock among many other tasks and Daniela Albani who works both in the cellar bottling and preparing the shipments and in the vineyards.
We finished our lunch at 5pm – it was a long day but at the same time a great celebration for all of us here at Il Poggione.
