Tasting notes of 1985 Il Poggione Brunello di Montalcino by Andrea Gori


Herewith the translation of Andrea Gori's tasting notes of 1985 Brunello di Montalcino of Il Poggione. Andrea is one of the sommeliers top of the Italy and he works as sommelier of his family's "trattoria" in Florence, the "Trattoria da Burde", a very famous restaurant that some believe was the inspiration of the "Gambero Rosso" "Red Lobster" restaurant in the book of Pinocchio by Florentine writer Collodi. As his website says "for one hundred years the true Tuscany cooking".

"Apotheosis of color, garnet and superb finish. Nose the most
complete, typically Sangiovese, from heath to potpourri, from cherries to sweet
tobacco, pepper from the licorice. Then humus, glutamate, dried mushrooms,
anise and cardamom, bay light: a kaleidoscope with a background of evolving
great goudron. Mouth fine and thin, less impressive but consistent with that of
the nose in every point and testament. Goes down fine, delicate but never
bloodless, meditation and moments of deep sensitivity. The elegance that comes
out of distance, a moment captured in time, a real thrill to be repeated until
the end of the bottle".
