Grape Color Beginning To Change

Today during our  daily vineyard inspections to check the health of the vines, we found that the first Sangiovese grapes are starting to change their color: this is the beginning of veraison (invaiatura in Italian). In reviewing our notes from previous years, we saw that this year we are approximately 10 days ahead of schedule. The grapes that are starting veraison were found in an almost 24-year-old vineyard in an area called Pianelli, which is in the central part of the estate, not far from the cellar.
