Clear skies continue in Montalcino despite light morning drizzle

This morning, when I got out of bed at 6 a.m. and opened the window, the sky was gray and a light drizzle fell from the sky. It wasn’t a good start to the day.

By 8 a.m., when the vineyard workers began to pick the grapes, the sky had cleared up and the rain hadn’t even wet the leaves of the vines. And the day’s picking began without any problems.

Sangiovese grapes we picked early on for our Brunello di Montalcino are already fermenting and vinification is going well. The wine already has a beautiful color.

The wine in the photo comes from the Sasso Crociato vineyard, which lies on clay-rich soils. I’m very happy with the excellent results from this year’s harvest.
