An Explosion Of Vegetation This Year

Looking back at the 2012 harvest, which was hot and dry, we had suffering and a reduced amount of vegetation in the vineyards despite our continuous working of the land in efforts to maintain what little water and moisture that there were.

This year we have seen an explosion of new vegetation.
We have passed through the vineyards every ten days to trim the new vegetation with the topper. But it has been showing no signs of stopping.

These photos were taken from two weeks ago.

Topping is an important operation.

We must force the vine to slow down on its vegetative development and work instead on the bunches, accumulating sugars, and not just sugars, as it brings the bunches toward ripening.
