Harvest Report 2011: Light Rain Today, Harvest on Hold

Montalcino vineyards

Heat and scarcity of water will abandon Tuscany at the end of September, even though today, 19 September at 2:00 a.m., it began to rain and 15 millimeters of rain fell across the region, very little with respect to the amount of rainfall in our area. At 7:00 a.m., when I got to the office, the temperature was 13° C. (55° F.).

We have not re-initiated the harvest, as previously planned, because the grapes were wet. We will begin again tomorrow with the picking of the Sangiovese for the Rosso di Montalcino.

We are continuing the works of preparation of the land where we will plant a new Sangiovese vineyard (photo above).
