Harvest Report 2011: Bat Boxes, ecologically friendly way to combat mosquitoes

Summer is here, time to go to the sea… The sun is here, too, but not just sun…

This is the period when the mosquitoes began to bother us, in part because of the humidity from the abundant rainfall in these days.

The approach to containing the mosquitoes in an ecologically friendly way is that of using bats, who are capable of killing as many as 2,000 of them during the night.

We have acquired "bat boxes" (houses for bats) designed by the researchers of the natural history museum in Florence. And the bats are accustomed to the new homes and they move in from the many nearby buildings that they regularly inhabit.
