Last week we began harvesting in Sant'Angelo in Colle. Here are my father's notes and some photographs.
We have begun picking the Merlot that we will utilize in
blend with the Sangiovese to make the Mazzoni IGT Toscana. Healthy, ripe
grapes, with an excellent sugar-acidity ratio. Last we week we picked the
Moscadello di Montalcino and Chardonnay grapes.
On the basis on the analyses, after the Merlot, we will
begin also to pick the Sangiovese to produce the IGT Toscana Rosato "Lo
for a new sparkling rosé that will be made with the "long" Charmat
method utilizing 100% of Sangiovese grapes.
The seasonal progression is going well also thanks to the
rain from last week that lowered the temperature. Yesterday, we had a maximum
temperature of 30° C. and 20° C. minimum. This excellent thermic variation
helps to bring out the aromas and fragrances.
I am always more convince that this will be an excellent
vintage with 5 stars.
